Pricing for this upgrade is obscene – I only paid $180 for the license of PrimalScript 2007 Standard I own now, and while it’s an indispenable tool, paying almost as much again ($150, from what I see) for an upgrade is a little hard to swallow. Is the reasoning the elimination of the multi-SKU setup that 2007 employed?
PrimalScript 2009 is basically what PrimalScript 2007 Enterprise edition was at the PrimalScript 2007 Professional price with all the added features.
So if you previously had the Standard edition you get a lot more features. If you don’t think these features are worth it, you are under no obligation to upgrade. PrimalScript 2007 is still supported and will be for quite a while.
We recommend to everyone to download the trial and live in it for the 45 days. This will help you decide if the features are right for you.
I had PrimalScript 2007 Enterprise and had all the Snippets on disk that you guys sold as well. Do those Snippets work with the new version of PrimalScript? Or are they already included, since I don’t see them as a separate item any more?
Also, I originally purchased the PrimalScript 2007 Professional with Software Assurance, then upgraded, I think it was for $100 extra, to PrimalScript 2007 Enterprise with Software Assurance after talking to someone on the phone at Sapien. Since it seems like I would have still received the same version of PrimalScript 2009 regardless of which version of PrimalScript 2007 I had purchased, was that upgrade just a $100 waste of money for me???
All snippets you have will work with the new version.
If you had upgrade assurance and where entitled to a free upgrade based on timing, your upgrade assurance carries over.
So no, your $100 wouldn’t be wasted.
If you have questions or doubts about this you should contact sales@sapien.com. Please include your license key since it contains your software assurance, if you have it.
Alex, I had upgrade assurance for PrimalScript 2007 Professional. After talking to someone at Sapien, I spent the extra $100 to upgrade to PrimalScript 2007 Enterprise, figuring that when PrimalScript 2009 came out, I would be entitled to the Enterprise version of PrimalScript 2009. But it looks like there is no PrimalScript 2009 Enterprise version. If I had stayed with the PrimalScript 2007 Professional version, I still would have ended up with the same PrimalScript 2009 version without spending the extra $100 dollars for the PrimalScript 2007 Enterprise version. I’ll send an email to the sales group and ask them.
For the Snippets, where do they go in PrimalScript 2009? In PrimalScript 2007, there was a sub-directory for the Snippets that were picked up by PrimalScript 2007, but don’t see one in the PrimalScript 2009 directory.
You will find the snippets now under
“C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SAPIEN\PrimalScript\Snippets”
As for the $100 question, I don’t know what about and more importantly when our sales staff talked to you. So I can’t really answer that. But I know that if you call again or send email to sales@sapien.com any unjust situation will be taken care of.
These question are better suited for our support forum
at support.sapien.com rather than in blog comments. So please post any other concerns there.
Just to let you know, your blog entry “Look Ma, no editions!” cleared everything up perfectly. It was definately worth upgrading to the PrimalScript 2007 Enterprise, specially with the inclusion of PrimalSQL 2009. Great product!!
