I recently did a TipSheet columnlisting some of my favorite quick, one line commands. Reader Wayne waskind enough to share with me his list of oft-used one-liners which hegraciously offered to share. I have not tested many of thesepersonally, but you always test things in a non-production environmentanyway, right? The command entry should all be on one line. I’vewrapped lines just to get everything displayed in the post.

This is a very handy list, thanks for posting.
Here is another I use regularly:
DCDIAG /n:<DomainName> /v /c /f:c:\DCDaigLog.txt
I was trying to use
Find servers in the domain
dsquery * domainroot -filter "(&(objectCategory=Computer)(objectClass=Computer)(operatingSystem=*Server*))" -limit 0
but it returns "startnode has incorrect format"
I need to list ALL servers in the entire forest. Is that possible?
Thanks
Mike
Your command works fine for me when I run it on a Windows 2003 domain controller. Can you run ‘Dsquery computer’ and get results?
If you continue to have issues, please post something in the command line forum at ScriptingAnswers.com. It will be easier to work on this there as opposed to moderated blog comments.
Jeff
I´m trying to export to a file all groups without members, but i´m not able to do it, can you tell me what i have to put on the command line. One thing i need too, is to enumerate all the entrys, do you nkow how??
Many thanks
You should be able to do this with a custom LDAP filter:
dsquery * -filter "(&(objectCategory=group)(!member=*)"
If you need any other help with this, please post in the command line forums at ScriptingAnswers.com.
